Perplexity just opened the door for developers to use its own powerful search system. The new Search API gives direct access to over 200B webpages. Instead of messy links, the results come as clean, structured answers. This means your favorite AI apps could soon become faster, sharper, and more useful.

📌The Download

  • The Search API uses the same engine that powers Perplexity’s own answer tool. It breaks documents into small pieces instead of scanning whole pages. With this, AI models can find the right snippet in seconds. As a result, the output is more accurate, with less junk information.

  • Pricing begins at $1 for every 1M tokens in the Sonar plan. Higher tiers, such as Sonar Pro and Deep Researc,h are built for heavy users. Perplexity has also launched SDKs for Python and TypeScript, along with open-source tools for testing. This saves developers time and money on data prep.

  • Perplexity is moving from an answer engine into a full infrastructure provider. Its system handles millions of updates every second to keep the index fresh. The scale covers more than 200B URLs. Reports from sources say this puts Perplexity head-to-head with Google while targeting startups, enterprises, and AI agent builders.

Imagine talking to an AI that looks back at you. Microsoft has added Portraits to Copilot Labs. You can choose from 40 digital faces that blink, smile, and move as you speak. The feature makes voice chats with Copilot feel more natural and more human for the very first time.

📌The Download

  • Microsoft says many people prefer speaking to a face instead of just a voice. Portraits use Microsoft’s VASA 1 technology to create natural movements like lip sync, head turns, and expressions from a single picture. The faces are designed to look stylized, not real, so no one mistakes them for humans.

  • The feature is available in the US, UK, and Canada. It is only for adults who are 18 or older. Each session has time limits to avoid long use. Reports also say that access may need a Copilot Pro subscription, which costs $20 per month. This keeps it as a premium experimental tool.

  • Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, has shared a bigger vision. He wants Copilot to have a permanent identity that could grow older over time. Right now, Portraits work only in a browser. They are not yet part of Windows, macOS, or mobile apps. But this is the first step to giving AI a lasting face.

Drive for desktop is getting a new AI guard that was trained on millions of ransomware cases. It watches your files, stops suspicious activity, and helps you recover safely.

📌The Download

  • Google Drive for desktop will now scan files on Windows and Mac computers. If it sees strange behavior like hundreds of files being encrypted or corrupted at the same time, it will instantly pause syncing. At that moment, you get a desktop alert and an email telling you something is wrong.

  • The AI model has learned from millions of real ransomware samples. It does not try to remove malware on your computer, but it blocks infected files from being uploaded to Drive. You can then roll back to older versions of files. This way, your backups and shared folders stay safe from spreading damage.

  • Google says the open beta begins September 30, 2025, and a full release will come by the end of the year. Ransomware is growing fast worldwide. In 2024, there were 5,289 attacks reported, which was a 15% rise over 2023. The average cost per attack crossed $5M. This makes Google’s move a timely safety net.

At the same time, it introduced a new social app called Sora, where you can place yourself in AI videos and share them with friends in a feed that looks like TikTok.   • Sora 2 can generate videos up to 10 seconds long. These clips include voices, music, and effects that are matched with the visuals. OpenAI says the new model is more accurate and more realistic than last year’s version. A special “Cameo” option allows you to appear inside AI scenes, while public figures remain blocked.

  • The new Sora app works with the model. It is currently invite-only and available only on iOS in the US and Canada. The app lets you scroll through a personalized video feed, remix clips from others, and share your own creations. To reduce harmful content, the feed highlights posts from your friends before showing strangers.

  • Copyright is already a hot issue. Disney has chosen to opt out, meaning its material will not be used in training. However, most copyrighted work is still treated as fair use unless creators request removal. Experts warn that this could flood feeds with low-quality AI content that makes it hard to trust what is real. Others say it opens new creative freedom.
