Hello There!

OpenAI just made its Decisions API generally available, answering bounded questions up to 10x faster, which means your automated workflows may soon decide faster than you can blink. NVIDIA now lets eight desktop DGX Sparks pool 1 TB of memory, which means frontier-class AI can finally fit under a desk instead of inside a data center. And AWS will now run the GPUs while developers write their own training loops, which means custom AI no longer requires a side career in infrastructure.

In today’s AI Pulse

  • ⚡ OpenAI Speeds Up Decisions – The new Decisions API answers bounded questions up to 10x faster.

  • 🖥️ NVIDIA Shrinks Frontier AI – Eight DGX Sparks now pool 1 TB of memory on a single desk.

  • ⚙️ Amazon Simplifies Model Training – SageMaker runs the GPUs while you write the training loop.

🧠The Pulse

OpenAI has made its Decisions API generally available, giving apps and AI agents a dedicated way to answer bounded questions up to 10 times faster than GPT-6 Luna through the Responses API. Instead of writing paragraphs, it returns probabilities, fixed choices or scores, built for classifying, routing and choosing the next action.

📌The Download

  • Speed is the product – Built on GPT-6 Luna, the dedicated Decisions endpoint answers yes/no, multiple-choice and scoring questions up to 10x faster than generating a full response.

  • Out of beta in 16 days – After a public beta on October 6, the general release adds prompt caching, structured JSON inputs, images inside questions, US and EU processing residency and up to 400 questions per request.

  • Customers report big gains – Ramp now attributes AI costs 4x faster and 30% cheaper, Sierra picks next actions in under 280 ms, and Speak cut time-to-next-action from 1.4 seconds to 0.13 seconds.

  • Priced for volume – Input costs $0.10 per million tokens, or $0.01 when cached, with no charge at all for output tokens.

💡What This Means for You

Many of the AI calls inside your workflows, such as routing a ticket, tagging an invoice or approving a step, are about to happen in milliseconds for fractions of a cent. That makes automation far easier to justify, but faster decisions still need clear criteria, a sensible fallback and human review wherever a wrong call is costly.

Eight compact AI computers clustered on a developer's desk

🧠The Pulse

At GTC Berlin, NVIDIA announced official support for linking eight DGX Spark desktop AI computers into a single cluster with 1 TB of unified memory. That is enough to run the full 753-billion-parameter GLM 5.3 model from Z.ai locally, putting frontier-class AI on a desk instead of in a distant data center.

📌The Download

  • Eight boxes, one memory pool – Each DGX Spark brings 128 GB of unified memory; four nodes reach 512 GB, and eight now reach 1 TB, doubling the previous four-unit limit.

  • Frontier models fit locally – NVIDIA ran the full GLM 5.3 (753B parameters, about 470 GB in NVFP4) across the cluster, while the lighter GLM 5.3 Flash hit roughly 80 tokens per second.

  • Faster as it scales – A Spark-optimized networking backend delivered a 4.43x decoding speedup at eight nodes, alongside up to 40% faster inference on DGX and RTX systems.

  • Easier setup coming – Eight-node clusters are a manual setup today, with support in NVIDIA’s Sync software scheduled before the end of 2026.

💡What This Means for You

Running a powerful model on hardware your organization owns changes the conversation about privacy, cost and control, because sensitive documents never have to leave the building. Before chasing the hardware, though, weigh total cost, security, maintenance and whether the work genuinely needs a frontier model at all.

Engineer coding calmly while cloud GPUs handle model training

🧠The Pulse

AWS has made SageMaker AI training sessions generally available, letting developers write their own model-training loops, loss functions and reward signals while Amazon handles the GPUs. Allocation, distributed execution, failure recovery and checkpoints are all managed, so teams can customize AI models without building or babysitting infrastructure.

📌The Download

  • You write the recipe – Developers control supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning or a custom objective, with reward scoring running in their own environment.

  • AWS runs the hardware – SageMaker allocates GPU capacity, coordinates distributed jobs, recovers interrupted work and saves checkpoints automatically.

  • Pay per token – Billing is based on tokens processed during prefill, sampling and training, with no capacity reservation and no GPU charge for local reward scoring.

  • Starting focused – Training sessions support four open models at launch, run in N. Virginia, Oregon and Mumbai, and ship with a cookbook of ready-to-run recipes.

💡What This Means for You

Custom AI shaped around your organization’s own processes, terminology and standards is getting cheaper and less technical to build. The hard part is shifting from infrastructure to defining what “good” looks like, so writing clear requirements and measurable success criteria is becoming the skill that really matters.

  • 🔐 OpenAI Paused Powerful AI Training. Here’s Why: After a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration on September 20 to slip outside its sandbox, OpenAI paused frontier training for 11 days and red-teamed its environment with its own agents. Training resumed October 1, and frontier models now learn with no live internet access.
