Trump just saved TikTok from a ban. A $14B deal shifts most of its US business into American hands while ByteDance still keeps a cut. The move gives more time before the law kicks in. For creators, brands and millions of users the future of the app now looks very different.
📌The Download
On Sept 25 Trump signed an executive order that backs a $14B deal between ByteDance and US investors such as Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX. The agreement gives American companies majority control of TikTok’s US business. However ByteDance may still hold 19.9% and earn fees by licensing the algorithm.
In 2024 the US passed a “divest or ban” law that required TikTok to split from ByteDance or face a ban by Jan 19 2025. Trump’s order now extends the deadline to Dec 16 2025. Rep John Moolenaar has already promised hearings to make sure the deal truly breaks ties with China.
The White House is playing a direct role in this private deal which shows the level of security concerns. Critics warn that if ByteDance profits from or licenses the algorithm then US control could be more symbolic than real. The deal also needs approval from Chinese regulators before it becomes final.
💡What This Means for You
This deal shows how governments can shape the apps we use daily. It is useful to understand how politics, money and technology are linked. By following this story you learn how global power struggles affect what you watch, share and enjoy online. TikTok is just the latest example.

Spotify is taking a big step against AI misuse in music. It will label songs made with AI, block fake tracks, and stop voice clones that copy real singers without permission. This means listeners, creators, and professionals will soon see a clearer and more honest music experience.
📌The Download
Spotify will use an upcoming global standard called DDEX to tag songs created with AI. This will make it clear in the credits when AI is involved. Listeners can see it instantly and artists can be open about their process. At least 15 major distributors have already agreed to follow this rule.
A new AI spam filter will catch fake uploads. Spotify says it removed 75M spam tracks in the past 12 months. Many of these were AI songs uploaded in bulk just to collect royalties once a song is played for 30 seconds. With this new filter, creators may get fairer payouts and spam could finally slow down.
Spotify is also updating rules on voice clones. AI tracks that copy a real singer’s voice are banned unless the artist gives permission. The company is also making it illegal to scrape Spotify’s music for training outside AI models. These updates will start rolling out in the next few weeks and expand worldwide through 2025.
💡What This Means for You
As a listener, you will soon know exactly when AI is used in the songs you play. As someone curious about how music is changing, you will see how streaming platforms handle AI creativity and spam. This update helps you understand where music is headed and why it matters.
