Hello There!

Eight states just took OpenAI to court over ChatGPT’s safety, which means AI guardrails are now a legal question, not just a PR one. Google is pushing more source links into its AI answers, which means the open web might get some of its traffic back after all. And ChatGPT’s voice now speaks with more natural accents across six new languages, which means your next brainstorming partner may sound more human than your last meeting.

🧠The Pulse

Eight US states have filed separate lawsuits against OpenAI in their own courts, alleging ChatGPT was designed to be agreeable and engaging while giving harmful advice to users, including teenagers. The states say OpenAI misled the public about ChatGPT’s safety and broke consumer protection laws. OpenAI did not immediately comment on the suits.

📌The Download

  • A bipartisan front – Iowa, Kansas, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia each sued in state court, following Florida’s first state lawsuit in June.

  • Safety at the core – The complaints allege ChatGPT reinforced delusions, encouraged dangerous behaviour and gave false medical advice, with particular concern for teenage users.

  • Consumer law is the weapon – The states argue OpenAI misled users about safety and created a public nuisance by endangering residents’ health.

  • What they want – Court-ordered changes to ChatGPT, civil penalties and damages, and a bar on self-improving AI models unless OpenAI can show they align with human values.

💡What This Means for You

The bar for workplace AI is shifting from “does it work?” to “can you prove it is safe?” If your organization puts chatbots in front of customers or staff, document your safeguards, usage limits and escalation paths now. Regulators are clearly ready to treat AI safety as a consumer protection issue.

Professional viewing an AI search answer linked to web pages and news sources

🧠The Pulse

Google announced five changes to AI Overviews and AI Mode designed to steer people back to original sources. Inline links now sit higher in more answers, official sites may be listed first for task-based searches, and news carousels are expanding. It is Google’s latest answer to criticism that AI summaries hide the web.

📌The Download

  • Links move up – Google says it has substantially increased inline links inside AI responses and now places them higher in more answers.

  • Official sources first – For task-based searches with one or two official sources, Google will test listing those sites at the top, with context on why each link is useful.

  • Richer news links – Related-article links gain image thumbnails, and carousels featuring readers’ Preferred Sources expand to more locations and languages.

  • Creators get credit – Google is testing creator and publisher names in AI Mode video results that link to their Search profiles, while Preferred Sources usage is up more than sevenfold this year.

💡What This Means for You

AI search is starting to reward the authoritative, official source rather than the loudest one. If your organization publishes content, make sure your key pages clearly answer task-based questions. And when you research, click those inline links: an AI summary is a starting point, never the citation itself.

Professional talking naturally to an AI voice assistant on a smartphone

🧠The Pulse

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 and a smaller GPT-Live-1.1 Quip model to ChatGPT Voice. The update brings more natural accents, new voices for French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish, a new English voice called Bubbie, and less robotic filler while ChatGPT searches mid-conversation.

📌The Download

  • Two new voice models – The full GPT-Live-1.1 powers paid plans, while the lighter Quip serves Free and Go users within a rolling 24-hour usage window.

  • Voices go global – New options cover French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish, and English gains a new voice named Bubbie.

  • Less machine, more human – Accents are tuned to sound more natural, and ChatGPT now uses a wider range of short phrases when it pauses to search.

  • Gradual rollout – OpenAI says the voices you see may vary by region and account, so check Settings, then Voice, to find what is live for you.

💡What This Means for You

Voice is becoming a serious work interface, not a novelty. Use it to rehearse a presentation, talk through a problem on your commute or practise a client conversation in another language. Keep confidential details out of hands-free chats in public places, and verify any numbers it gives you before you act.
