Hello There!

OpenAI just shipped a ChatGPT built with Morgan Stanley to do a junior banker's job, which means the pitch deck that used to cost an analyst a night's sleep now takes about ten minutes. Google put Gemini one keyboard shortcut away on every Windows PC, which means the AI assistant no longer waits in a browser tab for you to remember it exists. And DeepSeek dropped a faster model that it says beats its own flagship at a fraction of the cost, which means the price of frontier-level AI just fell through the floor again.

Here's what's making headlines in the world of AI and innovation today.

🧠 The Pulse

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services on September 10, a version of its chatbot built with Morgan Stanley and Evercore to do the research, modeling and pitch-deck work that fills a junior banker's week. It runs on GPT-6 Astra, plugs into Bloomberg and FactSet, and is open to eligible institutions on ChatGPT Enterprise.

📌 The Download

  • Built with the bankers – Morgan Stanley worked directly with OpenAI on the product's features, and boutique advisory firm Evercore joined as a design partner.

  • Wired into the data – Roughly 50 connectors link a firm's existing Bloomberg and FactSet subscriptions with pre-loaded data from PitchBook, Crunchbase, Daloopa and LSEG News.

  • Decks in ten minutes – It generates PowerPoint presentations, Excel models and web dashboards with citations, and sample pitch decks took about ten minutes to build.

  • Enterprise only – Access requires a ChatGPT Enterprise account and direct approval from OpenAI, putting it head to head with Anthropic's Claude for Financial Services.

💡 What This Means for You

The tasks being automated first are the structured, repeatable ones: pulling data, building models, formatting decks. That is true far beyond banking. Map the repeatable analysis in your own role, learn to direct and verify AI output against source data, and position yourself as the person who owns the judgment, not the formatting.

🧠 The Pulse

Google released a Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and 11 on September 10, five months after the Mac version. Press Alt + Space from any screen and a lightweight Gemini window appears over whatever you are doing, ready to fact-check a document, brainstorm, generate images or video, or hand a task to the Spark agent. The download is free.

📌 The Download

  • One keystroke – Alt + Space opens Gemini as an overlay on top of any app, so you can ask a question and jump straight back into your work.

  • Full toolkit – The app includes Nano Banana image generation, video generation, Notebooks and Recents in a side panel, and Gemini Spark, the always-on personal agent that works through Connected Apps.

  • Free to start – The download and core Gemini features cost nothing; Spark automations and other advanced features need a paid Google AI plan.

  • More coming – Google says local file access for Spark is arriving soon and more native desktop capabilities will roll out over time.

💡 What This Means for You

Friction decides which tools actually get used. An assistant that appears with one keystroke gets consulted far more often than one living in a browser tab. If your team runs on Windows, this quietly makes Gemini the default AI on the desktop, so set the ground rules now for which data can and cannot be pasted into it.

🧠 The Pulse

DeepSeek released V4.1-Flash on September 10, a 552-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts model that activates just 8 billion parameters to read and 16 billion to write. The company says it outscores its own flagship V4-Pro, needs a quarter of the memory for its cache, and ships with open weights and a 1-million-token context window.

📌 The Download

  • Lean by design – A new causal encoder-decoder architecture keeps only 8B parameters active on input and 16B on output, cutting KV-cache needs to a quarter of the HBM and an eighth of the SSD storage of the previous generation.

  • Frontier-level scores – DeepSeek reports 74.2 on the DeepSWE v1.1 coding benchmark, edging Claude Opus 5 at 74.0 and GPT-5.6 Sol at 73.0, though Opus 5 still leads comfortably on Terminal-Bench.

  • Priced to undercut – Off-peak API rates run $0.003 per million cached input tokens, $0.15 uncached and $0.60 for output, with peak-hour rates at double that.

  • Open and replacing – The weights are on Hugging Face under an MIT license, V4-Flash is retired, and V4-Pro requests get routed to the new model from September 14 until V4.1-Pro arrives.

💡 What This Means for You

Every time DeepSeek does this, the price of serious AI capability drops for everyone, including the vendors your company already pays. Treat model pricing as a variable cost to renegotiate, not a fixed line item. If you run AI workflows at volume, benchmark them against a cheaper model this quarter and bank the difference.
