Apple just unveiled iPhone Duo, a foldable iPhone with a Siri that reads your messages, emails, photos and screen before it acts, which means the assistant in your pocket finally knows what you meant, not just what you said. OpenAI put GPT-Live-1 into its API so any app can build a voice agent that listens while it talks, which means the next support line you call may politely interrupt you back. And Anthropic revealed it blocked attempts to use Claude for cyberattacks, propaganda and gain-of-function virus research, which means the most capable AI models are now fielding the most dangerous requests.

Apple unveiled iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, built around a new Siri AI that draws on personal context across messages, emails and photos, understands what is on screen, and takes action across apps. The A20 Pro chip doubles Neural Engine compute for on-device models, and the phone starts at $1,999 with availability from October 23.

Siri gets personal – Siri AI searches your messages, emails and photos for context, understands onscreen content, takes related actions, and writes or edits text when you simply describe what you need.
Two screens, one assistant – The 7.6-inch inner display brings Split View to iPhone for the first time, so you can keep a document open on one side while talking to Siri on the other.
Built for on-device AI – The 2-nanometer A20 Pro pairs a dual 16-core Neural Engine with twice the compute for local models, with Private Cloud Compute handling heavier requests privately.
Premium price, October ship – iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with pre-orders opening October 16 and availability from October 23 in more than 70 countries.

Apple is making AI part of the phone rather than an app you open. An assistant that reads your inbox, calendar and screen can strip out routine friction, but it also touches sensitive data. Decide now which work accounts a personal assistant may see, and review any action it takes on your behalf.

OpenAI released GPT-Live-1 in its API, giving developers the full-duplex voice model that already powers ChatGPT Voice. It listens and speaks at the same time, handles interruptions and background noise, and hands deeper reasoning to whichever backend model or agent harness the developer chooses. Pricing is $0.05 per minute, with telephony support and a dozen new voices.

Proven with early customers – OpenAI says it lifts Full Duplex Bench by 30 points over GPT-Realtime-2.1, language app Speak saw almost 80 percent fewer interruptions, and Yelp, Fin, Cognition, Picsart and HeyGen are already building on it.
Priced per minute – The voice layer costs $0.05 per minute, supports phone-based deployments, and ships with 12 new voices across accents, dialects and languages, with custom voices available through sales.

If spoken requests can trigger real actions, insist on confirmation steps and clear permissions before rollout.

Anthropic published its third misuse report, covering December 2025 through August 2026, and said it blocked attempts to use Claude for cyberattacks, surveillance, influence operations and biological research, including a request tied to gain-of-function work on the chikungunya virus. Actors ranged from spyware vendors to state-backed groups, and every identified case was stopped.

Bio misuse blocked – One actor sought help drafting a grant application for gain-of-function research on chikungunya, targeting the virus's transmissibility and immune evasion, and Anthropic shut the attempt down.
Seven harm areas – The report spans cyber operations, surveillance, influence operations, conventional weapons, biological misuse, scams and fraud, and illicit model distillation.
Propaganda at scale – Nine influence operations from Russia, Iran, Turkey and elsewhere ran hundreds of fake social accounts, and one commercial firm alone published 8,913 articles across 70 fabricated news sites in about 20 languages.
Newer models, tighter guardrails – Anthropic says its Claude Fable and Mythos-class models carry stronger safeguards that restrict dual-use biology queries and sharply reduce harmful cyber capability, and it shared findings with governments and industry partners.

The most capable AI tools are now attracting the most dangerous requests, and vendors are treating misuse reporting as a routine control. Expect stricter usage policies, monitoring and access reviews at work. Treat powerful assistants like privileged software: govern who can use them, log what they do, and audit high-impact actions.
