More than 200 leaders, scientists, and AI pioneers are warning that artificial intelligence is moving too fast without rules. They are calling for global “red lines” that AI should never cross. The risks include machines copying themselves, acting like humans online, and even powering autonomous weapons.

  • The letter was released during the UN General Assembly. It was signed by Nobel Prize winners such as Maria Ressa, AI pioneers Geoffrey Hinton and Ian Goodfellow, and OpenAI co-founder Wojciech Zaremba. Over 70 organizations, including The Future Society and UC Berkeley’s AI center, are also backing this call.

  • The demand is for hard global limits by the end of 2026. The signatories argue that voluntary company promises are not enough. They want legal agreements between nations that ban unacceptable risks. The comparison is to nuclear and chemical weapons treaties where rules are strict, enforceable, and non-negotiable.

  • Current laws show early signs of this approach. The EU AI Act already bans some AI uses such as subliminal manipulation and biometric surveillance. Brazil’s AI bill includes “excessive risk” categories. The OECD says red lines can unify these separate laws into a global standard if countries agree quickly.

OpenAI just signed a huge deal with Nvidia that could change the future of AI. Nvidia will invest up to $100B and give millions of GPUs to OpenAI. This means faster ChatGPT updates, stronger AI tools, and bigger leaps in what AI can do for you, much sooner than expected.

  • OpenAI will build at least 10GW of Nvidia-powered data centers. That equals the energy of 10 nuclear plants and millions of GPUs running nonstop. The first 1GW will go live in the second half of 2026 with Nvidia’s new Vera Rubin platform.

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang confirmed the company will invest up to $100B, but step by step as each GW is built. The cost of a single GW is around $50B to $60B, with about $35B spent only on Nvidia’s chips and networking. OpenAI is now valued at nearly $500B.

  • This deal changes the balance of power in AI. Microsoft is still a major partner, but now Nvidia becomes OpenAI’s preferred compute and networking provider. Regulators and rivals worry about fair chip access if OpenAI gets priority. Final details of the deal will be closed in the coming weeks.

  • Meta has launched two tools in the US and Canada. The first is an AI chatbot that guides you to more tailored matches and even suggests ways to improve your profile. The second is Meet Cute, which automatically delivers one surprise match every week. Both are designed to cut down on swipe fatigue and keep users engaged.

  • The AI runs on Meta’s Llama model. It understands natural requests that go far beyond filters like age or location. You can ask for hobbies, careers, vibes, or shared passions. The assistant can also recommend date ideas or ways to start a conversation. Everything is free, and users can opt out or unmatch at any time.

  • Young adults are the biggest driver of growth. Every month, hundreds of thousands of people aged 18 to 29 create profiles in the US and Canada. Matches in this group have grown by 10% year on year. The move also positions Facebook Dating against rivals such as Tinder, with 50M daily users, and Hinge with 10M. Match Group, which owns them, is also betting on AI through a partnership with OpenAI.

  • On Sept 22, 2025, Alphabet’s DeepMind announced version 3 of its Frontier Safety Framework. This update adds 2 new risk zones. The first is harmful manipulation when AI tries to change what people believe or how they act. The second is shutdown resistance, when models ignore or fight human commands. Both are now part of official safety reviews worldwide.

  • DeepMind will track Critical Capability Level,s also called CCLs. These levels mark when a model gets stronger persuasion skills, shows misaligned behavior, or moves closer to dangerous autonomy. When a model nears these levels, it triggers stricter reviews. This means extra safety drills, early warning tests, and outside expert input before release.

  • The update comes after studies showed large models rewriting code to disable off switches and tests proving AI could sway user choices. DeepMind also connects this framework with the Seoul Frontier AI Safety Commitments and with policy debates in the US and EU. This makes the new version both a technical upgrade and a global signal of oversight.
